Here I go again....?

After some consideration, I decided to complete graduate courses in instructional technology. I have found great difficulty gaining employment and believe having an additional degree will help me in the long run. I feel that I may enjoy working in an online community of learners, even perhaps creating content to be used for online learners. In the meantime, I registered to take a few exams for state employment (PA). Hopefully, I will be able to gain full time employment with benefits, while I continue to get my graduate degree. Fingers crossed.

Inspiration

Recently, I had the honor of judging a media fair at ESU. Local high school and middle school students submitted their works in categories such as desktop publishing, graphics, animations, photo manipulations, etc. It was eye opening to see the quality of work and the students dedication to their projects. I am always inspired by the creativity of fellow students! These students certainly set the bar high.

Job? Graduate School? Both?

http://www.careerbuilder.com/

Well while I'm compiling my research and creating my report, I decided to set up a careerbuilder job alert. For anyone who has not used this service it helps find jobs nationwide. It's a great and FREE service. You create a job search based on keywords and alerts are emailed to you when a job description that matches your alert is posted.  The bonus features: you can narrow or widen your search by areas that you would prefer to work in, you can use a group of key words and use "any" or "all" of the words. For my keywords of the following: graphics, photography, desktop publishing, media communications, I have found that the majority of the jobs in these areas are located in Washington, DC, Philadelphia, NY, and VA with a small amount in Allentown and suburbs of NY and NJ. I'm not suprised at this at all, and for the right job I would commute or relocate. I am going to add a new keyword to my search regarding teaching and online teaching to see what is available.

Graduate school is looking appealing. I'd like to get some sort of employment, even if it's part time while attending graduate school. Probably in a school, community college or university setting where I can get some experience in the education field or at the very least.... my foot in the door.

Media Communication and Technology

Hello and welcome to my blog. I am designing my blog based on my experiences with a new course that is being developed for the Media Communication and Technology students at East Stroudsburg University. Currently, I am the only student enrolled in this course because I fell under the unique circumstance of needing it to fufill my graduation requirements and it is not being offered until next semester. It is a seminar course. The Media Communications and Technology major is very hands on and many students intern, which leads us to go right out into the workforce and miss what other opportunities are available in this field. This course is designed to help us examine all of our options. My blog is to help me examine my options and interests and document my learning experiences in this course.
